I’m not sure how it happened, but I was sent TWO advance copies of a just-released novel that is getting a lot of positive buzz. I haven’t yet had chance to read and review the book, but I’d like to offer my extra ARC to one of my readers.
Here’s a product description of Andrew Davidson’s The Gargoyle:
An extraordinary debut novel of love that survives the fires of hell and transcends the boundaries of time.
The narrator of The Gargoyle is a very contemporary cynic, physically beautiful and sexually adept, who dwells in the moral vacuum that is modern life. As the book opens, he is driving along a dark road when he is distracted by what seems to be a flight of arrows. He crashes into a ravine and suffers horrible burns over much of his body. As he recovers in a burn ward, undergoing the tortures of the damned, he awaits the day when he can leave the hospital and commit carefully planned suicide—for he is now a monster in appearance as well as in soul.
A beautiful and compelling, but clearly unhinged, sculptress of gargoyles by the name of Marianne Engel appears at the foot of his bed and insists that they were once lovers in medieval Germany. In her telling, he was a badly injured mercenary and she was a nun and scribe in the famed monastery of Engelthal who nursed him back to health. As she spins their tale in Scheherazade fashion and relates equally mesmerizing stories of deathless love in Japan, Iceland, Italy, and England, he finds himself drawn back to life—and, finally, in love. He is released into Marianne’s care and takes up residence in her huge stone house. But all is not well. For one thing, the pull of his past sins becomes ever more powerful as the morphine he is prescribed becomes ever more addictive. For another, Marianne receives word from God that she has only twenty-seven sculptures left to complete—and her time on earth will be finished.
Already an international literary sensation, The Gargoyle is an Inferno for our time. It will have you believing in the impossible.

For me, it’s absolutely the rave reviews that drew me in – from people whose opinions I normally agree with, nonetheless. Thanks for the giveaway!

Hi Dawn! Thanks for linking to me. I’ve posted about your giveaway here
Can’t wait to hear your reaction to the book.
Hey, my blog is a book blog, and I’m always looking for good books to read. Of course, I find most of them at my local public library. But I never turn down the chance to read a good book! And to make connection with another book lover. “So many books, so little time” is one of my mantras. I have the Edward Gorey t-shirt, and both of the Gorey (girl and boy) rubber stamps that depict the sentiment. It’s what led me to your blog! (via Google, naturally).
I forgot to mention my blog’s URL: tillabooks.blogspot.com
Would be my first time reading this author and sound good!
I would love to be entered! I’ve been hearign great things about this book and want to it out for myself.
I want to read this book because of the review Devourer of Book’s posted. Please enter me in your giveaway. Thanks
The story is quite different and it’s not my normal genre but I am trying to expand my circle as far as books go. I would love to win a copy of this!
Aside from all the buzz about The Gargoyle, I read the first chapter and was hooked! I think I NEED to win this book! Thanks for the chance!
I’ve always collected gargoyles and have several books about them. I even watched the cartoon. I’m really interested in reading the book.
I’m very interested in reading this book myself.
I’d like to read Gargoyle because my friend recommended it to me; heard it was great 🙂
Oh! I’ve been wanting to read this one since I’ve heard so many good things about it. Thanks for the contest 🙂
I’m in the middle of reading this one right now and it is GOOD. I was really thinking I’d be turned off by the first few pages but it just gets so fascinating.
One of my personas would love to read Gargoyle. Why? Well, my literary persona is found of the site “Readerville” and its blogger Rebecca. She says the book rocks and that is good enough for me.
BTW, don’t tell my other personas. They want me to spend more time gardening and running-not reading.
PS-I will link this post to my blog for an extra entry!
I’ve been reading all sorts of mixed reviews about this and my curiosity is piqued. Please count me in!

Honestly, I hate gargoyles themselves. But all the raves about this book….ah! So now I seem to think I HAVE to read it, so I’d love to enter! :’)
I want to read the book because of the great reviews to accompany the cool sounding plot (I like Scherezade stories) . . . plus the cover is pretty.

I love this type of book setting – Angels, Demons, and the way in which they intersect with our world. I’ve been interested in reading this novel since I first saw the descriptions.
I wasn’t interested in this one until I read “Fantasy Book Critic’s” review, then I knew I’d just HAVE to read it. Please enter me in your drawing!
I’m interested in this book because I’ve read syuch good reviews for it! Please enter me in your contest!
Eep! I’m sorry it took so long to post this; it got buried in my after-vacation mail.
At any rate, it’s been posted at Win a Book and yes, I’d love to read it. I need to know what the buzz is about — and if the book earns its buzz. (so I’m looking forward to your review!)
I’m just curious to see if it lives up to what is being said about it, I’d love to win it!
I have picked this one up several times in the bookstore, but set it back down, thinking “Maybe next time.” It looks so good – something that is really different!
I think all the hype about this book is quite facinating but is the novel truly worth it. I love reading reviews but it really drives me nuts when I go to read on and basically all that is said is, “It’s a great book, you gotta read it!” Is that all there is to make a book into a megastar wannabe?
I think I really need, and I stress the word “need”, to form my own opinion and see if it truly is “A great book that I gotta read.”
Cool! I would like to win! Count me in!
I’ve read the reviews, and can’t wait to read it! Thanks for the contest!!
I hadn’t heard of it until Susan at WestofMars posted a link to this post. It’s sounds very interesting and the past lives aspect makes it even more so.
Yes, please, enter me. I’ve heard so many good things about Gargoyle that I’ve pretty much decided to buy it but just haven’t gotten round to it yet.

This love story is intriguing and I like to see how it will unfold.
At first this book doesn’t sound very interesting but as you hear more about it the story draws you toward it.

I have heard the buzz about this book and then went on to read great reviews so that definately is a bonus for me. I happen to be a fan of gargoyles too but the title is only a draw, it’s the synopsis that gets me hooked on wanting to read it. I have posted about your generous giveaway here.
Thanks for the chance!
I really like the idea of past life romances! This is what draws me to this book the most! I have added it to my blog sidebar here: http://loralynnsart.blogspot.com/

I would love to win this book. Please enter me for the draw.

I actually ran across your site while doing some other research. Your review of Gargoyles caught my eye but i figured i would just add it to my “to buy” list, and not clutter your contest with an entry when a longtime fan could get an ARC.
Continuing my research, i ran across 3 more reviews of the same book… interest increased with each review.
count me in, and thank you for the opportunity,
I thought that the story was very interesting – and the website about Burned By Love – makes all for very invigorating hype around this book. I would love to have a chance to win this book – I think it’s going to be a hit!

Me again. I am now housebound due to some unexpected surgery and would love to have an awesome book to help whittle away the days until I get my stitches out. I know I will love the book….
The character of Marianne interests as much or more than the narrator! Why did she appear to him in such dire circumstances. It is because he was considering suicide later on?! Does she sculpt him into a Gargoyle? Reincarnation has always interested me. I have had a fear of statues since I was very young. Even as an adult, I won’t get too close to them if I can help it. Sometimes, I entertain the idea that in a past life, a statue fell on me. Please enter me in your book drawing. Many thanks, Cindi
